Women's Soccer Moves To 2-0-0 On The Season With 1-0 Win Over Southern Connecticut
Hanne Neby Scores Only Goal Of The Match in 62nd Minute
Bridgeport, Conn.-Newcomer Hanne Neby (Jr., Furnes, Norway) scored the only goal of the match 16:29 into the second half to lift the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over the visiting Southern Connecticut State University Owls in the final match of the 2015 UB Women's Soccer Classic on Sunday night. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 2-0-0 to open the season. SCSU slips to 0-2-0.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes that saw both teams take four shots apiece, Neby netted the only marker of the contest off a beautiful feed from junior Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) to complete a play that was started off a nice cross from freshman Jess Laszlo (Stamford, Conn.).
On the night, Bridgeport outshot the Owls, 14-8.
Freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made six saves to notch her second straight shutout to open the season.
Southern Connecticut State goalie Erica Ridella made five stops in the contest.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will close out their season-opening three match homestand on Wednesday evening (Sept. 9) when they host Adelphi University. Kick-off at Knights Filed is set for 6:00 p.m.
