Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-Mercy's Jessica Carrillo's two first half goals proved to be the difference in the match, as the host Mavericks posted a 2-1 East Coast Conference home win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon. The loss is UB's first of the 2014 season, as Bridgeport is now 5-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play. Mercy ups its overall mark to 7-1-0, and the Mavericks are still unbeaten 2-0-0 in the ECC.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Purple Knights dominated the second half outshooting their hosts 11-2 in the final 45 minutes of action, but Mercy goalkeeper Nicole Augustine made four saves and also had a ball cleared of the line by her teammates, as she kept UB of the scoreboard until there were just 28 second to play in the match when junior Flo Gamby (Goffs Oaks, England) netted her second goal of the year of bicycle kick in the box.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team will look to get back in the win column at home this Wednesday evening, October 1, when they host the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights in ECC action at 6:00 p.m.
