Bridgeport, Conn.-Four different players netted goals as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team defeated the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks, 4-0, at Knights Field on Friday night in the 2014 East Coast Conference opener for both teams. The victory keeps Bridgeport undefeated on the year at 4-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play. Roberts Wesleyan is now 3-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the ECC.
UB dominated the match outshooting the visitors, 24-4 on the night.
In the first half, senior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) netted her first goal of 2014 when she slammed home a tally off a corner kick form sophomore Tabea Rauschenberger (Muhlacker, Germany) at the 18:15 mark, and then junior Flo Gamby (Goffs Oak, England) put home her own rebound from a header off the crossbar with a semi-bicycle kick just over eight minutes later.
Rauschenberger, who would finish with a four-point night, figured in both of her team's second half markers assisting on sophomore Amanda Moura's (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) second goal the year just 3:56 in to the final 45 minutes of action, and then she put home her first goal of the season directly off a free kick at the 53:54 mark.
UB freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Occhipinti (Islip, N.Y.) notched her second consecutive solo shutout and up her season record to 3-0-0 on Friday.
The Bridgeport women's soccer to will look to remain unbeaten on Sunday at 12 noon when they host the Daemen College Wildcats in East Coast Conference action.
