Lakewood, N.J.-Freshman Ariana Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored the only goal of the match just over one minute into the second half to keep the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team unbeaten so far in 2014 with a hard-fought 1-0 road win over the host Lions of Georgian Court University on Monday afternoon in New Jersey. UB is now 3-0-1 on the season, and GCU skips to 3-1-0 in the early going of 2014.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Weingrad scored Monday's game-winning tally off an assist from classmate Nicole Greenwald (Levittown, N.Y.) just 63 seconds into the second half.
Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Occhipinti (Islip. N.Y.) made two saves to record her first solo clean sheet of 2014 for the winners. UB outshot the host Lions, 19-7, on the afternoon. As a team, Bridgeport has three shutouts in its first four matches.
