Julia Hansson Earns 2013 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Capital One National Academic All-America First Team Honors
Senior Is First UB Student-Athlete In History Earn First Team National Honors
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Sr., Tocksfors, Sweden) has been named to the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Capital One National Academic All-America First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her outstanding efforts in the classroom and on the playing field. Hansson is the first University of Bridgeport student-athlete to be recognized with a First Team National Academic All-America selection. Last season when Julia earned Second Team National Capital One Academic All-America honors, she became the only the second UB student-athlete to earn National Academic All-America honors as selected by CoSIDA, joining Cathleen Meadean who earned Second Team National Academic All-America honors in softball in 1993. Hansson is a Health Sciences major at Bridgeport with a 3.88 cumulative grade point average.
Hansson finished her stellar UB career this season as the school's all-time leader all-time leader in career shutouts with 35. This season, she was named the East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year posting an 18-3-0 record with 10 solo shutouts and a .061 goals against average. In 2011, Julia led the nation in saves percentage and goals against average.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
