Eight Women's Soccer Standouts Honored With 2013 All-Conference Accolades
Tabea Rauschenberger Named ECC Rookie And Defensive Player of the Week And Julia Hansson Chosen Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
Central Islip, N.Y.-Eight members of the University of Bridgeport women’s soccer team have earned 2013 All-East Coast Conference recognition for their outstanding play this season. Five Purple Knights, junior forward Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England), sophomore midfielder Flo Gamby (Goffs Oak, England), freshman midfielder Nicola Worthington (Cholley, England), freshman defender Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany) and senior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) were selected to the 2013 First Team All-ECC Squad. Rauschenberger and Hansson received additional accolades for the conference, as Tabea was selected as the ECC’s Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year, and Julia was named 2013 ECC Goalkeeper of the Year.
Three players, freshman forward Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), and defenders Ashleigh Berg (Jr., Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Lauren Mengel (Gilberstsville, Pa.) were chosen to the 2013 East Coast Conference Women’s Soccer All-Conference Second Team.
The University of Bridgeport women’s soccer team, under the direction of head coach Magnus Nilerud, posted a 15-2-0 overall record during the 2013 regular season and are currently ranked number 23 in the nation and number three in the East Region of NCAA Division II women’s soccer. The Purple Knights will open play in the 2013 East Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament tomorrow night, Thursday, November 7, when they host LIU Post at 6:00 p.m. UB is the number one seed in the tournament, and LIU Post is the number four seed.
