Women's Soccer Wraps Up ECC Regular Season Crown With 4-0 Home Win Over NYIT
Purple Knights Head Into Wednesday's 2013 Regular Season Finale At Queens On A 15-Match Winning Streak
Bridgeport, Conn. -The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up its fifteenth win a row and locked up the East Coast Conference regular season title and the top seed in the 2013 ECC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament with a 4-0 home victory over the NYIT on a chilly and breezy Saturday night. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 15-1-0 overall and 8-0-0 in conference play. NYIT slips to 5-10-1 overall and 2-7-0 in the ECC. With Saturday's victory, UB also finished the 2013 regular season with a perfect 8-0-0 record at home.
As the top seed in the upcoming ECC Championship Tournament, the Purple Knights will host the yet to be determined number four seeded team at Knights Field on Thursday, November 7.
Junior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) got Bridgeport on the scoreboard at the 37:18 mark of the first half when she netted her team-leading twelfth goal of 2013 and her team-best fifth game-winner off an assist from freshman Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany).
The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Purple Knights until the 76:44 mark of the match when UB would erupt for three scores in the next 2:10 of play. Two of the three goals came from sophomore Flo Gamby (Goffs Oak, England) and the other tally came from sophomore Julia Navarro (West Haven, Conn.). Gamby now has eight goals in 2013, and Saturday's score is Navarro's first of the season.
Senior Lauren Saritelli (Greene, R.I.) with one and sophomore Fanny Fellevik (Stockholm, Sweden) with two, registered assists in the second half for UB.
In net for the Purple Knights, senior Julia Hansson (Tockfors, Sweden) with two saves, and sophomore Jackie Fonseca (West Harrison, N.Y.) with one stop, shared the clean sheet for the winners.
The UB women's soccer team wraps up its 2013 regular season schedule on Wednesday afternoon at Queers (N.Y.) College. Action is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
