Five First Half Goals Propel Women's Soccer To Win Number 14 In A Row
Purple Knights Top Daemen, 5-1
Amherst, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team scored five first half goals, as four different players found the back of the net, helping the Purple Knights cruise to their fourteenth straight win with a 5-1 East Coast Conference road victory over the host Daemen College Wildcats on Sunday. With the win, UB, ranked number 16 in the nation is the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Poll, is now 14-1-0 overall and a perfect 7-0-0 in conference play. The Wildcats are now 7-8-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the ECC.
Junior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) scored the Purple Knights' first goal of the day at the 5:58 mark, and she completed the first half scoring barrage with a marker with just under two minutes to play in the opening half. Puddefoot, who also had an assist in the win, leads Bridgeport in scoring so far this season with 11 goals and four assists for 26 points.
Freshman Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) scored what proved to the game-winning goal when she headed home a cross from classmate Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany) at the 21:17 mark. Rauschenberger would also score a goal later in the first for the winners, and sophomore Flo Gamby (Goffs Oaks, England) rounded out Bridgeport's goal scorers on the day.
Junior Gillian Munro (Manchester, England) and Paige Adamsky (East Williston, N.Y.) completed the Purple Knights on the scoresheet on Sunday, as they each had an assist.
The Purple Knights dominated play on the day outshooting Daemen, 25-8. Sunday's five goals ties the team-high scoring output so far this season, as UB also had five tallies at St. Thomas Aquinas College on September 15.
Senior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tockfors, Sweden) made four saves and did not allow a goal in 66:26 of action before she was replaced by sophomore Jackie Fonseca (West Harrison, N.Y.) who finished up between the pipes for the Purple Knights. Hansson has not allowed a goal in her last 256:15 of action.
The UB women's soccer team returns to action next Saturday, October 26 when the Purple Knights host NYIT for the team's final regular season home match. Action is slated to get underway at 6:00 p.m. Next Saturday is also Senior Night and UB Soccer Alumni Day.
