Freshman Tabea Rauschenberger Nets Game-Winning Goal Off Free Kick With Just Over 10 Minutes To Play In First Half AS UB Picks Up Its Eleventh Straight Win
Bridgeport, Conn.-Freshman Tabea Rauschenberger (Muhlacker, Germany) scored the game-winning goal off a long free kick with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up its eleventh consecutive win on Saturday evening, as the Purple Knights grabbed a hard-fought 2-1 East Coast Conference victory over the visiting LIU Post Pioneers. UB is now 11-1-0 overall and a perfect 5-0-0 in ECC play. The Pioneers are now 8-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in conference action. Rauschenberger's game-winning score is her second goal of the 2013 campaign.
The Purple Knights took an early 1-0 lead just 7:09 in the match when freshman Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) put home her second goal of the year off a goal-mouth scramble assisted by junior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England).
LIU Post would tie things up at 1-1 at the 27:11 mark of the first half when Alexa Niciforo would take the ball away from the UB defense and find the back of the net.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Sr., Tocksfors, Sweden) made four saves to earn win number eleven of the year.
The UB women's soccer team will look for win number 12 in a row at Philadelphia University on Tuesday afternoon. Action is slated to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
