Danielle Puddefoot Scores Both Goals As UB Women's Soccer Blanks Molloy, 2-0
Purple Knights Have Now Won Nine Matches In A Row
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-Junior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) scored one goal in each half to help lead the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team to a 2-0 road East Coast Conference win over the host Molloy College Lions on warm Saturday afternoon on Long Island. The victory is UB's ninth in a row, as the Purple Knights raise their overall record 9-1-0, and they are 4-0-0 in conference play. Molloy falls to 1-8-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the ECC.
Puddefoot, who has now netted goals in five of her last six matches and leads Bridgeport with six goals on the season, headed home the first goal of the day off a cross from freshman Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) just over 21 minutes into action. Danielle netted her second goal of the contest when she slotted home a pass from sophomore Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.) at the 56:38 mark.
UB outshot Molloy, 12-1, on the day, and senior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) added to her school record in career shutouts with number 31. As a team, the Purple Knights have seven clean sheets in 10 matches played so far in 2013.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team will look to run its winning streak to 10 matches on Tuesday afternoon when the Purple Knights take on Nyack College in non-conference action. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
