Bridgeport Starts 2013 ECC Women's Soccer Play With 5-2 Win At St. Thomas Aquinas
Flo Gamby's Hat Trick Helps Purple Knights To Their Third Straight Victory
Sparkill, N.Y.-Sophomore Flo Gamby (Goffs Oak, England) netted a hat trick, scoring the first goal of the match and the final two for her team, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team ran its winning streak to three and opened 2013 East Coast Conference play with a 5-2 road win over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday afternoon. UB is now 3-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the ECC. STAC remains winless at 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
The Purple Knights raced out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 19:01 of action, but the Lady Spartans battled back to cut Bridgeport's lead to 3-2 with just over 29 minutes to play before Gamby salted the match away with her final two goals of the day.
Also scoring goals for UB on Sunday were freshman Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany) and Julia Weidenmark (Varnamo, Sweden). Rauschenberger also added an assist to pick up three points on the day.
Sophomore Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.) had three assists in Sunday's win, and junior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) also picked up a point with an assist.
Next, the UB women's soccer team will open a five-match home stand with a contest against Wilmington (Del.) University on Wednesday evening at Knights Field. Action is slated to get underway at 6:00 p.m.
