Women's Soccer Opens 2013 Home Schedule With 1-0 Win Over Southern New Hampshire
Freshman Julia Weidenmark Nets Game-Winning Goal 10 Minutes Into Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team opened its 2013 home schedule in fine fashion on a hot and humid Wednesday night with a 1-0 non-conference win over the Southern New Hampshire Penmen. With the win, UB is now 2-1 on the early season, and SNHU is also 2-1 overall.
Freshman Julia Weidenmark (Varnamo, Sweden) scored the only goal of the match when she put home a score from a corner kick taken by classmate Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany) just 10:00 minutes into play.
Senior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made that goal stand up, as she notched two saves facing six shots to record her second straight clean sheet of 2013. Bridgeport outshot Southern New Hampshire, 12-6, on the night.
The Purple Knights are next in action on Sunday afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y., when UB opens its 2013 East Coast Conference schedule against the Lady Spartans. Action is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
