Purple Knights Back In Action On Sunday Afternoon Versus Southern Connecticut State To Wrap Up AIC Classic
Springfield, Mass.-Two first half goals were the difference on Friday, as the # 25 American International College Yellow Jackets women's soccer team posted a 2-0 season-opening win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in the first match of the 2013 AIC Classic.
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring just over eight minutes into the new season when Alida Boyce tallied off an assist from Jessica Margaretta. AIC netted the final goal of the match with seven minutes to play in the opening half when Sonia Basma found the back of the net.
American International dominated the contest outshooting UB, 19-5, on the day.
Bridgeport senior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made 10 saves in the contest to keep the Purple Knights close.
AIC's Sam Tabek made two saves to record a shutout in the 2013 season opener.
UB will be back in action on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when the Purple Knights will face Southern Connecticut State in Springfield in the first match of the final day of the 2013 AIC Classic.
