Women's Soccer Falls In Regular Season Finale At Dowling, 3-0
Purple Knights Will Host Queens In ECC Semifinals On Thursday
Brookhaven, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team closed out its 2012 regular season with a 3-0 loss at Dowling College on Sunday morning in a match played in windy and damp conditions on Long Island in advance of Hurricane Sandy. The loss snaps a four-match winning streak and five-match unbeaten run for the Purple Knights who head into the semifinals of this year's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament with a 10-5-2 overall record and a 6-2-0 conference mark. The victory ups Dowling's record to 11-3-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the ECC. Bridgeport will be the number two seed in the ECC Championship; while Dowling will be the number four seed.
The Golden Lions got a pair of second half goals from Rachel Nelson after Lindsay Thompson scored the match's first tally at the 38:01 mark of the first half.
UB goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Jr., Tocksfors, Sweden) made three saves on the day. The Golden Lions outshot the Purple Knights, 11-6, in the match.
The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team is the number two seed in this week's 2012 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament, and the Purple Knights will host the number three seed Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Thursday, November 1 at 3:00 p.m. Dowling is the number seed in the ECC Championship, and they will travel to number one seed LIU Post that same day. Thursday's winners will meet on Saturday, November 3 at highest remaining seed for the East Coast Conference title and an automatic bid the NCAA Division II Championship that will begin the following week.
Due the impending bad weather all over the area, the 2012 East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Championship has been pushed back one day and will be played on Thursday November 1 and Saturday, November 3. The ECC men's championship will be played on Friday, November 2 and Sunday, November 4.
