Strong First Half Keeps Women's Soccer Undefeated At 15-0-0 With 4-0 Win At Pace
Goalkeeper Julia Hansson Records Single-Season School Record 12 Shutout Of The Season
Briarcliff, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team remained undefeated on the season at 15-0-0 overall as the Purple Knights did all their scoring in the first half on their way to a 4-0 non-conference win over the host Pace University Setters on Tuesday afternoon. Pace, winners of sixth straight matches entering Tuesday's action is now 8-8-1 overall.
Senior Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the match when she tallied ninth goal of the year, which is tied for the team lead, an assist from classmate Katie Stanley (Oxford, England) in the 26th minute.
Senior Marie Pettersson (Amal, Sweden) would then score her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute to give UB a 2-0 lead.
Just over four minutes later Julia Colley (Jr., Harlow, England) scored the first of two goals on headers as she netted her eighth goal of the year off an assist from Kasey Kenny to make the score 3-0 in favor of Bridgeport.
Colley completed the scoring in the match with her team-leading ninth goal of the season just 1:34 before halftime heading home a pass from Marie Pettersson.
Bridgeport sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tockfors, Sweden) was again outstanding in net for the Purple Knights making 10 saves to notch her 12 shutout of the season. Those 12 shutouts are a new UB single-season record surpassing the 11 turned in by Allison Vrobel in 2004.
The Purple Knights close out the 2011 regular season with an East Coast Conference match at Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday. Action gets underway in Flushing, N.Y. at 11:30 a.m.
