Women's Soccer Stays Undefeated And Claims Regular Season Conference Crown With 5-0 Road Win Over St. Thomas Aquinas
Goalkeeper Julia Hansson Ties Single-Season School Record With Her 11th Shutout Of The Year
Pomona, N.Y.-Julia Colley (Jr., Harlow, England) scored just over two minutes into the match and sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) tied the single-season, school record with her eleventh shutout of the year making three saves, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team claimed the regular season East Coast Conference title with a 5-0 win over the host St. Thomas Aquinas College Lady Spartans on Saturday afternoon. The number one ranked in the nation Purple Knights stay undefeated on the season raising their overall record to 14-0-0 and the conference mark to an unblemished 6-0-0. STAC falls to 2-10-1 and 0-6-0 in the ECC.
Joining Colley as goal scorers for Bridgeport were Giuana Prugger (Ortisei, Italy) with two and senior Danielle Weir (Bo'Ness, Scotland) plus junior Asia Pulse (New Haven, Conn.) hit the back of the net once. Colley now has seven goals on the year; Prugger four scores; Pulse six tallies and Weir's goal is her first of the season. Senior Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) had two assists for UB on the day.
Hansson's eleventh clean sheet of the year ties her with Allison Vrobel (2004) for the single-season school record for shutouts.
The Purple Knights are back in action on Tuesday afternoon at Pace University for a non-conference contest. Action gets underway at 3:00 pm.
By claiming the regular season ECC title, Bridgeport is now guaranteed of hosting the number four seeded team in the conference championship tournament in one semifinal on Thursday, November 3rd, and if the Purple Knights win that match, they will host the conference championship final on Saturday, November 5th.
