Women's Soccer Stays Perfect On The Season With 2-0 Win Over Dowling
# 1 Purple Knights Now 12-0-0 Overall And 5-0-0 In ECC Action
Bridgeport, Conn.-Seniors Julia Colley (Harlow, England) and Katie Stanley (Oxon, England) each scored first half goals and sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made five saves to record her ninth shutout of the season as the number one University of Bridgeport women's soccer team posted a 2-0 East Coast Conference home win over the Dowling College Golden Lions on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, UB remains undefeated on the season at 12-0-0, and the Purple Knights are now 5-0-0 in conference play. Dowling is now 9-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the ECC.
Colley opened the scoring when she headed home a picture-perfect cross from junior Becky Wallis Rockville, Center, N.Y.) at the 17:02 mark for her fifth score of the season.
12 minutes and 53 seconds later, Stanley gave Bridgeport a 2-0 lead when she hammered home a free kick from just outside the penalty box for her sixth goal of 2011.
With Saturday's clean sheet, Hansson lowers her season goals against average to a minuscule 0.25.
Bridgeport is back in action at home on Thursday afternoon when the Purple Knights will close out their 2011 regular season home schedule with a non-conference tilt with Wilmington (Del.) University. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Knights Field.
