Stanley And Hansson Help Lead Women's Soccer To 2-0 Win Over NYIT
# 1 Purple Knights Now 9-0-0 Overall And 3-0-0 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Katie Stanley (Oxon, England) continued her free kick magic on Saturday afternoon as she tallied the only two goals of the match off free kicks in the first half to lift the number one ranked University of Bridgeport women's soccer team to a 2-0 East Coast Conference home win over the NYIT Bears on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Purple Knights are now 9-0-0 overall on the season and 3-0-0 in conference play. NYIT is now 5-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the ECC.
Stanley's goals, her fourth and fifth of the season, came in the ninth and 22nd minutes. Katie has now scored the Purple Knights' last three goals, all off free kicks.
UB goalie Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made eight saves to notch her fifth consecutive shutout and seventh clean sheet of the season. Hansson now not allowed a goal in 486:55 consecutive minutes played.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team will look to run its season-opening winning streak to ten on Tuesday afternoon at Saint Anselm College.
