Katie Stanley And Asia Pulse Score Second Half Goals Plus Julia Hansson Records Fifth Clean Sheet Of 2011
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team got second half goals from senior Katie Stanley (Oxon, England) and junior Asia Pulse (New Haven, Conn.), plus sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tockfors, Sweden) recorded here third consecutive shutout and fifth of the season, as the Purple Knights, ranked number five in the nation in the most recent NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches of America) national poll, posted a 2-0 home East Coast Conference (ECC) win over the C.W. Post Pioneers on Saturday night. With the win, UB is now 7-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play. C.W. Post, the 2010 ECC Champions, are now 3-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league action.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Stanley opened the scoring in the match when she netted her second goal of the year off an assist classmate Julia Colley (Harlow, England) at the 62:07 mark.
Nine minutes and 55 seconds later, Pulse found the back of the net with her second tally of 2011 off a long pass from freshman Stephanie D'Andrea (Milford, Conn.)
Hansson made five saves in net for Bridgeport as she extended her scoreless streak to a total of 306 minutes and 55 seconds.
The Purple Knights are back in action on Wednesday night (September 28) as they host the Stonehill College Skyhawks. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
