Women's Soccer Rides Two Early Goals To A 2-1 Win Over AIC In 2011 Season Opener
Seniors Julia Colley and Kasey Kenny Score For The Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team scored two early goals, and then the Purple Knights held off a furious late charge by the American International College Yellowjackets, as UB held on for a 2-1 win over AIC in the 2011 season opener for teams on Friday night in the second match of the 2011 University of Bridgeport Women's Soccer Classic.
Senior Julia Colley (Harlow, England) opened the scoring just 12:16 into the match with a rocket to the top off the net off an assist from freshman Jenny Hwang (Manchester, Conn.). Four minutes and two seconds later, senior Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored what proved to the game-winning goal of the night when she put home a through ball from Colley to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Purple Knights.
AIC got on the board with just over two minutes to play in the match when Bonnie Boornazian put home a rebound off a hard shot from Caroline Boyce at the 87:22 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) played well in the net for Bridgeport recording eight saves on the night.
The 2011 University of Bridgeport Women's Soccer Classic continues on Sunday with AIC facing C.W. Post at 3:00 p.m., and Bridgeport hosting UMass Lowell at 6:00 p.m.
UMass Lowell defeated C.W. Post, 1-0, in the opening match of the day on Friday.
