Tara Dimaio Leads UB With Five Goals But Purple Knights Fall At Home To Wilmington (Del.), 17-14
Women's Lacrosse Is Back In Action On Saturday At Jefferson
Bridgeport, Conn.-The host University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse held a 10-8 lead at halftime, but the visiting Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats went on a 6-0 run in the third quarter to take a 14-10 lead which they never relinquished on their way to a high-scoring 17-14 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the Purple Knights on Tuesday at Knights Field. Bridgeport is now an even 5-5 overall on the season and 4-2 in conference play. The Wildcats raise their season overall record to 9-4, and they are 5-1 in the CACC.
After trailing 14-10 in the third quarter, UB netted the next three goals to cut the deficit to just one, 14-13 with 10:51 to play, but Wilmington would score the next three markers to put the game out reach.
Freshman Tara Dimaio (Shirley, N.Y.) led the UB offense with five goals on Tuesday.
Graduate student Andrea Basilicato (Guilford, Conn.) fired home three tallies for the hosts, and senior Tereza Kreuzova (Prague, Czech Republic) and Megan Kreitler (Grad., Shelton, Conn.) each had two goals for the Purple Knights.
UB got single goals on Tuesday afternoon from Danielle Kreitler (Grad., Shelton, Conn.) and Evelyn Edwards (Fr., Puyallup, Wash.).
Sophomore goalkeeper Jacklyn Mellia (Nanuet, N.Y.) made 11 saves in net for Bridgeport against the Wildcats.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team heads to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday to face the Thomas Jefferson University Rams in a CACC game. Opening draw in the City of Brotherly Love is set for 12 noon.
