West Palm Beach, Fla.-The host Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish outscored the visiting University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team 7-4 in the second half on their way to a 13-9 win over the Purple Knights in Florida on Tuesday evening. UB is now 1-1 on the young 2023 season, and Tuesday's game was PBA's season opener.
Danielle Kreitler (Grad., Shelton, Conn.) led UB on offense versus the Sailfish netting three goals with one assist, and sister Megan Kreitler (Grad., Shelton, Conn.) chipped in two goals and a helper.
The Purple Knights got single goals on Tuesday night from Tara Dimaio (Fr., Shirley, N.Y.), who also added one assist, senior Tereza Kreuzova (Prague, Czech Republic) and freshmen Emily Stuart (Rising Sun, Md.), who had two assists as well, and Evelyn.) Edwards (Puyallup, Wash.)
Dimaio had a fine all-around game causing five turnovers and picking up four ground balls.
Sophomore Jacklyn Mellia (Nanuet, N.Y.) had 11 saves in goal for Bridgeport.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will close out its Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State with a Thursday afternoon contest at Lynn University. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
