Served As UB's Associate Head Coach This Past Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport Vice President of Athletics and Recreation Jay Moran announced today that Jessica Ormrod has been elevated to head coach of the UB women's lacrosse program after serving as the Purple Knights' associate head coach last season.
Current head coach Kate Smullen, who also serves as Bridgeport's Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Women's Administrator, will remain with the program to assist Ormrod with the transition to the head coaching position this season.
Ormrod came to UB in the summer of 2021 after serving as the assistant women's lacrosse coach at the University of Montevallo in Alabama since August of 2017.
The West Haven, Connecticut native also served as a graduate assistant women's lacrosse coach at King's College in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, her alma mater, from May 2014 through May 2017.
Said Smullen, "We are excited to have Jessica continue to grow with our program. Her knowledge of all facets of the game has shown through during her time at UB, and I definitely feel she can take our program to new heights as we move into a new conference this season."
"I'm grateful in the confidence that both Jay and Kate have shown in me to continue my journey in the coaching profession,' said Omrod. "Bridgeport has become my home, and I look forward to facing the challenges that my new role and our new conference will bring."
A 2014 King's College graduate, Ormrod was a four-year starter who played defense her first three years before moving to the midfield as a senior. During her intercollegiate career, she tallied 24 goals, 127 ground balls, and 70 caused turnovers. She also earned two All-Academic team awards in 2012 and 2014, a 2014 All-MAC Freedom Conference honorable mention, and the Monarch Merit Award in 2014.
Along with her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Psychology, Jessica also holds a Masters of Education degree from King's College.
