Purple Knights Return To Women's Lacrosse Field This Saturday Versus D'Youville
UB Is Back In Action At 1:00 P.M. At Home After Over A Year Hiatus
Bridgeport, Conn.-After over a year hiatus, the University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse program returns to the field on Saturday, March 20, 2021, when the Purple Knights host East Coast Conference newcomer, the D'Youville College Saints at 1:00 p.m. to open the program's seven-game season slate that will feature conference-only competition.
UB was last on the field on March 11, 2020 when the Purple Knights defeated Jefferson University 14-13 in overtime to complete their pandemic-shorten season last year with a 5-1 record.
Along with Saturday's season opener, Bridgeport will host two more home games in 2021 against St. Thomas Aquinas at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 11 and versus Mercy College at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m.
All of the team's 2021 contests will be streamed on the web at: https://www.eccsportsnetwork.com/ubknights
The top returning scorers on this year's roster are seniors Shyla Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Courtney Hylok (Muskegon, Mich.), along with junior Jessica Kinser (Voorhees, N.J.). Murray scored 12 goals and added one assist for 13 points in last season's six outings, and Hylock tallied 11 goals with one assist for 12 points. Kinser amassed 19 points in 2020, as she netted nine goals with 10 helpers.
Also returning from last year's squad are junior attacker Addison Plume (Glen Arms, Md.), senior defender Giselle Hall (Fairport, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Tereza Kreuzova (Prague, Czech Republic) and senior defender Jen Pasternak (Hamburg, N.Y.).
Junior goalkeeper Abbie Jones (Rising Sun, Md.) is back in net for the Purple Knights after seeing action in three games last year in which she picked up one win without a loss.
Another familiar face is back on the sidelines for Bridgeport in 2021, as Kate Smullen returns for another season as the program's head coach after last season's bench boss, Taylor Martin, returned to the coaching staff at her alma mater of Barry (Ga.) College.
