Women's Lacrosse Posts Big Senior Night Win Over UDC
UB Blanks The Visiting Firebirds, 17-0
Bridgeport, Conn.-Seniors Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) and Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each had four goals and one assist to help lead the University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team to a 17-0 Senior Night victory over the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds on Friday night. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 11-3 overall and 4-3 in the East Coast Conference. UDC remains winless at 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the ECC.
Friday's shutout is the first time in the program's five-year history that the Purple Knights have blanked an opponent. In goal for UB, junior Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made one save in the first half, and sophomore Kasey Boisvert (Danbury, Conn.) made six second half stops.
Freshman Abigail Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) had three goals and one assist in the win.
Six Purple Knights netted one goal on Friday, seniors Alexia Costa (Providence, R.I.), Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.) and Paige Adamsky (E. Williston, N.Y.) and sophomores Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.), Kerry Mackinnon (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Rebecca Rieg (Long Valley, N.J.).
The UB women's lacrosse team is back in action on Monday afternoon for a non-conference game at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
