Bridgeport, Conn.-For the first time in the time in the five-year history of the program, the University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team has opened the season at 3-0 and opened its East Coast Conference schedule at 2-0, as the Purple Knights dominated the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights, 15-4, on a rain and cold Saturday afternoon at Knights Field. As mentioned before, UB is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. QC slips to 0-2 overall and is 0-1 in the ECC.
Senior Gabrielle Valela (Lindehurst, N.Y.) and sophomore Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) led the Bridgeport offense as the each tallied four goals on the day. Freshman Abigail Benesh (Horesheads, N.Y.) chipped in three goals and assist for the winners.
Junior goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made three saves to move her season mark to 3-0.
Nest up, the Bridgeport women's lacrosse team heads to the Sunshine State of Florida to take on Ava Marie on Tuesday afternoon and Florida Tech on Wednesday evening. Both games will take place at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
