Furious Rally Falls Just Short As Women's Lacrosse Falls At AIC, 10-9
Junior Gabrielle Valela Nets Four Goals To Lead The Purple Knights
Springfield, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team staged a furious rally on Saturday afternoon, but it fell just short as the Purple Knights dropped to 0-2 on the young 2014 season after a tight 10-9 loss at American International College (1-0) on a chilly Saturday afternoon in Massachusetts.
Trailing 9-3 with 20:06 to play in the game, UB rallied with five straight goals to cut the AIC lead to 9-8 with 10:43 remaining, but the Purple Knights could never tie things up, as the Yellow Jackets held on for the win.
Junior Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led Bridgeport with four goals on Saturday. Also finding the back of the net for the Purple Knights were Emily Catalano (Jr., N. Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Kerry Mackinnon (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) with two goals apiece plus junior Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) scored once.
Sophomore goalie Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made 13 saves for Bridgeport.
The UB women's lacrosse team is schedule to begin a busy week of action on Monday when they are next in action hosting Franklin Pierce University. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
