Women's Lacrosse Opens 2011 Season With 13-10 Loss To Post
History Made As Purple Knights Take The Field For the First-Time Ever At The Varsity Level
Bridgeport, Conn.-History was made on Friday afternoon at the University of Bridgeport as the Purple Knights took the field for their first-ever women's lacrosse game at the varsity level. Unfortunately for UB fans, the Purple Knights were defeated by the Post University Eagles, 13-10.
With the score tied 2-2 and 16:56 to play in the first half, Post ran of six unanswered scores to take an 8-2 lead which they never relinquished.
Post evens its record at 1-1 with the victory.
Bridgeport sophomore Jennavie Orrell (Gloucester, Mass.) led all players in the game with eight goals. Gradate student Melanie Fernandes (Southbury, Conn.) and freshman Nichole Rogers (Dallas, Tex.) each had one goal for the Purple Knights.
Stephanie Marran and Kathryn Price each netted five goals for Post.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Victoria Harrison (Fr., Massapequa, N.Y.) made eight saves, and Post goalie Jacquellin Jolles made 10 saves to record the win in net.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is back in action on Tuesday night (March 8th) at Chestnut Hill College. Game time is 6:00 pm.
