Rally In The Final Rotation Lifts Purple Knights To A Senior Day Gymnastics Dual Meet Win Over SCSU To Sweep The Weekend

Bridgeport, Conn.-It was a happy Senior Day Sunday for the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team, as the Purple Knights completed a weekend dual meet sweep of the Southern Connecticut State Owls, as UB took the win in the Wheeler Recreation Center, 193.475-193.075, as the hosts posted a 48.825 in the floor exercise in the final rotation of the afternoon; while the visitors sored a 47.00 on the balance beam.
Along with that 48.825 in the floor exercise, the Purple Knights scored a 48.825 on the beam, a 48.275 on the vault and a 47.550 on the bars.
UB took the top three spots on the balance beam on Sunday led by freshman Lola Sepulveda (Woodbridge, Va.) who tuned in a career-best 9.850. Sepulveda also took top honors in Sunday's all-around posting a career-high total score in the four events of 39.025.
On the beam, Lola was followed by sophomore Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in second place at 9.800 and senior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) in third with a 9.775.
Imbarlina was the Purple Knights top finisher in the floor exercise with a career-high score of 9.850, which placed her in a tie for second.
On the bars, senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) tied for second place to top the Bridgeport finishers with a score of 9.750, and she also topped the squad on the vault taking second place with a score of 9.750, and Lola Sepulveda tied for third on the vault at 9.70 along with teammate Kieran Ross (Jr., Reno, Nev.).
Ross took third in Sunday's all-around competition with a total of 38.050.
Up next, the UB gymnastics team heads for Williamsburg, Virginia this coming Saturday, March 18 to compete in the 2023 Gymnastics East Conference Championship Meet hosted by William & Mary.
