Gymnastics Team Begins Season's Stretch Run With A Second Place Finish At Yale Tri-Meet
Purple Knights Take Second Behind Yale In Sunday's Action
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team was back in action on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights took the short trip up I-96 to the John Lee Amphitheater on the campus of Yale University for a tri-meet with the host Bulldogs, as well as Rhode Island College, and the Purple Knights finished second as a tem on the day posting a score of 187.700. Yale took the first place with a score of 193.025, followed by Bridgeport with its 1987.700 and Rhode Island College at 186.850.
As a team, the Purple Knights scored 47.725 on the vault, 47.225 in the floor exercise, 46.450 on the beam and 46.300 on the bars.
On the vault, senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) was the Purple Knights' top finisher tying for third place with a score of 9.675.
Freshman Abigail Kenney (Brick, N.J.) topped the Purple Knights on the bars taking fourth place with a score of 9.550, and she tied with sophomore Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) for team honors in the floor exercise, as they both posted scored of 9.650 to tie for sixth.
Imbarlina was the top UB finisher on the beam taking seventh place with a score of 9.600.
UB's Abigail Kenney was her team's top all-arounder on Sunday at Yale taking fourth place with a total of 37.325 in the four events.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's gymnastics team will close out its regular season slate with a pair of dual meets against Southern Connecticut State University. First, the two teams will compete in a dual meet at SCSU on Friday night at 6:00 p.m., and then meet again at UB on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., when the Purple Knights will celebrate Senior Day.
