Gymnastics Squad Takes Third Place In First Of Two Home Meets This Season On Saturday Night
UB Is Back In Action Next Sunday Afternoon at Yale Along With Rhode Island College
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team took third place on Saturday evening in the team's first of two home meets at the Wheeler Recreation Center this season, as the Purple Knights posted a team score of 191.200 in a quad meet that also featured West Chester, Brockport and Rhode Island College.
West Chester took the top team spot on Saturday with a total of 193.425. Brockport was second at 191.450 followed by the host Purple Knights and Rhode Island College took fourth with a score of 184.225.
As a team, UB scored 48.325 in the floor exercise, 48.075 on the vault, 47.950 on the balance beam and 46.850 on the bars.
Senior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) and sophomore Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tied for first place in Saturday's beam action, as they both scored 9.775.
On the vault, senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) was the Purple Knights top finisher taking third place with a score 9.750.
Chambers also was her team's top scorer on the bars with a 9.575, which put her in eight place, and she was closely followed by teammate freshman Lola Sepulveda (Woodbridge, Va.) in ninth with a 9.550.
In the floor exercise, freshman Abigail Kenney (Brick, N.J.) tied her career best with a 9.700 placing her in sixth, and she tied with teammate Alexis Richardson (Coram, N.Y.) who set a career high on the floor with her 9.700.
Lola Sepulveda and Kieran Ross (Jr., Reno, Nev.) took second and third place in Saturday's all-around, as Lola scored a career-high 38.475 in the four events and Kieran totaled 37.850.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will head up I-95 and travel to Yale University on Sunday, March 5 for a meet that will also include Rhode Island College. Action in New Haven will begin at 1:00 p.m.
