Busy Weekend Wraps Up For UB Gymnastics With A Season-High Team Score Of 191.875 At LIU
Senior Nicole Javinett Shines On The Beam Winning The Event With a Career-Best 9.950
Brookville, N.Y.-Competing in their second meet in just three days, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team posted a season-high team score of 191.875 taking on some staunch competition in a quad meet hosted by Long Island University on Presidents Day afternoon. Towson posted Monday's high team score at 196.350. Host LIU followed the Tigers at 195.775, then Brown at 194.125 and the Purple Knights at 191.875.
The beam squad led the way for UB at LIU posting an impressive score of 48.900. On Monday, the Purple Knights also totaled 48.375 on the vault, 47.750 in the floor exercise and 46.850 on the bars.
Senior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) shined on the beam taking first place on the afternoon with a career-best score of 9.950, as she received a perfect 10 from one judge. That scores also ties the school record score on the balance beam. Teammates Hannah Barry (Sr., West Hartford, Conn.) and Kieran Ross (Jr., Reno, Nev.) also had career-high scored on the beam, as Barry posted a 9.750 and Ross turned in a 9.725. Sophomore Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Lola Sepulveda (Woodbridge, Va.) were also strong on the beam as Olivia had a 9.750 and Lola scored a 9.725.
Imbarlina was the top Purple Knights' finisher on the bars with a score of 9.500, which placed her fifteenth.
On the vault, three UB gymnasts posted scores of 9.725 in Sepulveda, senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) and graduate student Jordan Streete (Agawam, Mass.), which put then in a tie for fourteenth.
In the floor exercise, freshman Abigail Kenney (Brick, N.J.) topped the Purple Knights with a career-high score of 9.700, placing her in the seventeenth spot on the day.
Lola Sepulveda and Kieran Ross took second and third place in Monday's all-around, as Lola scored 38.275 in the four events and Kieran totaled 38.150.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team continues a busy stretch of action on Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m., when the Purple Knights host their first of two home meets this season, as Bridgeport welcomes West Chester, Brockport and Rhode Island College to the Wheeler Recreation Center.
