Bridgeport Gymnastics Strong At Yale's Tonry Invitational As Purple Knights Post A Season-High Team Score Of 191.325
Vaulters Shine Posting A Total of 48.325 In Final Rotation Of The Afternoon
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team turned in a season-high team score of 191.325 at the Tonry Invitational hosted by Yale University on Super Bowl Sunday afternoon. The Purple Knights finished in third place on the afternoon, as host Yale took first place with a total of 194.075 followed by Southern Connecticut State at 192.275 and then Bridgeport at 191.32.
As a team, UB scored 48.325 on the vault, 47.900 on the balance beam, 47.825 in the floor exercise and 47.275 on the bars.
On the vault, senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) and student Jordan Streete (Agawam, Mass.) starred for Bridgeport, as they each posted scores of 9.725 to finish in a third place tie.
Chambers was also UB's top finisher on the bars taking seventh place with a score of 9.625.
On the balance beam, senior Hannah Barry (W. Hartford, Conn.) scored 9.725 to lead the Purple Knights and put her in a tie for seventh place. Sophomore Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a 9.700 on the beam to put her in a ninth place tie.
Imbarlina was the squad's top finisher in the floor exercise with a score of 9.675 placing her in a tie for seventh, and she was followed closely by freshman Abigail Kenney (Brick, N.J.), who posted a 9.650 which put her in ninth place.
Bridgeport had the only two all-around competitors on Sunday at Yale led by freshman Lola Sepulveda (Woodbridge, Va.) who compiled a score of 38.275 in the four events, and junior Kieran Ross (Reno, Nev.) totaled 37.900.
Up next, the Purple Knights will being a busy stretch of action with a dual meet at Willian & Mary on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Two days later on Presidents' Day afternoon, the Purple Knights will compete in a quad meet on Long Island hosted by LIU, and then the team will have its first home meet of the season on Saturday, February 25.
