Beam Squad Helps UB Women's Gymnastics To A Strong Second Place At Brown Quad Meet
Purple Knights Post A Team Score Of Over 191.000 For The Second Straight Week
Providence, R.I.-After posting a season-high team total of 191.225 last week at Temple, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics squad surpassed the 191-mark for the second straight week, as the Purple Knights took second place in Sunday's quad meet hosted by Brown University with a team score of 191.125. The host Bears took first on Sunday with a score of 193.625 followed by UB. Southern Connecticut State was third with a score of 188.975, and Rhode Island College was fourth with a total of 185.800 points.
As a team, the Purple Knights shined on the balance beam at Brown posting a season-high team score of 48.775, and UB scored 48.025 on the vault, 47.350 in the floor exercise and 46.975 on the bars.
On the beam, Bridgeport took the top three places on Sunday led by senior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) in first with a score of 9.825. Teammates Olivia Imbarlina (So. Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Hannah Barry (Sr., W. Hartford, Conn.) tied for second place behind Javinett, as they each scored a 9.800. That 9.800 is a career best for Barry.
Senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) posted a career-high score on the vault for the second straight week, as she tied for first place with a score of 9.800. She also was the Purple Knights' top finisher on the bars with a score of 9.750, which put her in another tie for first place on the afternoon.
Graduate student Jordan Streete (Agawam, Mass.) had a strong performance on the vault as well finishing in a third place tie with a score of 9.750.
Freshman Abigail Kenney (Brick, N.J.) was UB top finisher in the floor exercise taking tenth with a score of 9.675.
Classmate Lola Sepulveda (Woodbridge, Va.) took second place in Sunday's all-around competition posting a total of 37.425 in the four events.
After taking next weekend off, the UB women's gymnastics team will return to competition on Super Bowl Sunday, February 12 at 1:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights travel up I-95 to Yale University to take part in the Barbara & Don Tonry Invitational.
