Joanna Chambers Shines Winning The Bars And Vault On Sunday At Rhode Island College
Purple Knights Take Second Place As A Team On The Day
Providence, R.I.- Senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) continued her strong start to the 2023 season on Sunday afternoon at Rhode Island College taking first place for the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team on the bars and the vault, as the Purple Knights took second place on the day in a tri-meet hosted RIC. Springfield College took first place as a team on Sunday with a score of 186.675 followed by Bridgeport at 185.275 and the host Anchorwomen with a total of 184.625.
As a team, the Purple Knights scored 47.225 on the vault, 46.525 on the beam, 46.275 on the bars and 45.520 in the floor exercise on Sunday afternoon.
Chambers won the bars with a career-best score of 9.275, and she top the scoring on the vault with a score of 9.600. Teammate Olivia Imbarlina (So., Pittsburgh, Pa.) was second on the vault with a score of 9.500.
UB senior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) took the top spot on the beam with a score of 9.725.
In the floor exercise, freshman Lola Sepulveda (Woodbridge, Va.) was the top UB finisher taking sixth place with a score of 9.425.
Lola was the team's top finisher in the all-around taking third place with a total of 36.800 in the four events, and classmate Abigail Kenney (Brick, N.J.) was fourth in the all-around with a total score of 36.750.
Up next, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team will be in action in Philadelphia on Friday night, January 20 at Temple University in a quad meet that will begin at 7 p.m. and feature LIU and Cornell, as well as the Purple Knights and the Owls.
