Women's Gymnastics Opens Its 2023 Season With A Strong Showing At West Chester Tri-Meet
Senior Joanna Chambers Takes First Place On The Vault And Bars
West Chester, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened its 2023 season on Sunday afternoon against a pair of Gymnastic East opponents in a tri-meet hosted by West Chester University, and the Purple Knights opened the year with a second place finish out of the trio with a team score of 186.675. The host Golden Rams won Sunday's meet with a total of 190.975 followed by the Purple Knights and Southern Connecticut State finished in third place with a team score of 186.225.
As a team, UB won the bars on Sunday with a score of 46.525 and posted scores of 47.225 in the floor exercise, 47.050 on the balance beam and 45.875 on the vault.
Senior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) took first place in two events at West Chester winning the vault with a score of 9.625 and topping the standings in on the bars with a score of 9.675.
Sophomore Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was the top UB finisher on the balance beam on Sunday with a score of 9.675, and freshman Tierney Milliken (N. Easton, Mass.) was the top Purple Knight in the floor exercise with a score of 9.600 which put her in twelfth place.
Bridgeport had the only two all-around competitors in Sunday's 2023 season opener, and freshman Abigail Kenney (Brick, N.J.) posted a score of 35.900 in the four events followed by junior Kieran Ross (Reno, Nev.) with a total of 35.500.
Up next. The Purple Knights travel to Rhode Island College next Sunday for a tri-meet that will include RIC plus Springfield College. Action will begin next Sunday in Providence, R.I. at 12 noon.
