Kathryn Doran Earns A Spot On The Third Team National CoSIDA NCAA Division II Women’s At-Large Academic All-America Team
Gymnast's Selection Marks The 16th All-Time Purple Knight On A CoSIDA Academic All-America Squad
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics standout Kathryn Doran (Sr., Oakville, Ontario, Canada) has been honored for her outstanding athletic performance and her top-notch efforts in the classroom with her selection as a national CoSIDA Academic All-America, earning a spot on the 2022 Third Team National NCAA Division II Women's At-Large Academic All-America squad selected by CoSIDA (The College Sports Information Directors Association of America).
To be nominated as a CoSIDA Academic All-America, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
Sports included in the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women's At-Large program include bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.
A Health Sciences major, Doran closed out her stellar career at UB by earning USAG All-America honors on the bars and balance beam, as well as Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) All-America accolades on the bars; plus she earned a trip to the NCAA Gymnastics Regional hosted by North Carolina State. She also was Bridgeport's nominee for the prestigious AAI Award which is given annual to the nation's top senior gymnast.
Kathryn's selection marks the 16th all-time national Academic All-America team member, and the 15th since 2012, selected from the University of Bridgeport joining softball's Cathleen Meade (Second Team in 1993), women's soccer's Julia Hansson (Second Team in 2012 and First Team in 2013), women's soccer's Tabea Rauschenberg (Second Team in 2014), men's swimming Ruben Jimenez (First Team and National Division II Men's At-Large Academic All-America of the Year in 2014 and 2015), men's swimming Oscar Pereira (Second Team in 2014), women's volleyball Ying Shen (Third Team in 2014), women's soccer Nicola Worthington (Second Team in 2016). women's gymnastics Christine Liautaud (Third Team in 2016), women's swimming Annagrazia Bonsanti (Second Team Women's At-Large in 2018), Maegan Doyle and teammate Jennifer Wendelius, who earned First and Second Team honors for women's soccer in 2018, plus Doyle earned Second Team honors in 2019. In 2021, softball's Kaira Ramon earned a spot on the national Third Team for her sport; as did Hannes Nilsson for men's soccer.
