Purple Knights Shine On The Balance Beam At Saturday's West Chester Quad Meet
UB Turns In The Top Team Score On The Beam With A Total of 48.775
West Chester, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team posted the highest team score of the day on the balance beam (48.775) and took second in the floor exercise (48.400) to lead the meet by one point after two rotations, but an injury in pre-meet warm-ups limited the Purple Knights to only four competitors on the bars and the vault, so Bridgeport ended the day in fourth place as team at the West Chester University Quad Meet on Saturday afternoon. As a team, UB tallied 172.600 points on the day. The host West Chester University Rams won Saturday's meet with a team total of 193.100 points. Brown took second place with a score of 192.875, and SUNY Cortland took third with a score of 182.600.
Senior Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in Saturday's outstanding performance on the balance beam, as she tied for first place with a score of 9.825. Classmate Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) tied for third on the beam with a score of 9.800, and freshman Kiana Session (Chandler, AZ.), who finished second in Saturday's all-around with a total of 38.600 in the four events, took fifth place on the beam with a score of 9.775.
In the floor exercise, Session and senior Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) led UB, as they tied for fourth place with scores of 9.800.
On the vault, junior Joanna Chambers (Georgetown, Tex.) was the top finished for Bridgeport with a score of 9.700, which put her in a tie for third place.
Freshmen Catherine Aucoin (Austin, Tex.) and Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each scored 9.550 on the bars to lead the Purple Knights which place them in a tied for eleventh place.
Up next, the University of Bridgeport gymnastics team will travel to up I-95 to compete in next Sunday's Don Tonry Invitational hosted by Yale University that is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
