Kelly Aycock And Julianna Roland Selected For Weekly ECAC Women's Gymnastics Awards
Duo Shined At Last Saturday's Don Tonry Invitational Hosted By Yale
Danbury, Conn.-For the second straight week, two University of Bridgeport gymnasts have been recognized by the ECAC with weekly conference Division II awards for their fine performances. Senior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) has been selected as the ECAC Division II Specialist of the Week and freshman Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) earned this week's conference Rookie of the Week nod. Both Purple Knights shined at last Saturday's Don Tonry Invitational hosted by Yale University.
Aycock, a team captain who earlier this season was named a Coaches Choice award winner by the ECAC, competed in two events at Yale. She scored the second highest uneven bars score for the team with a 9.775, plus Kelly would go on to earn a second-place finish on the floor achieving a mark of 9.85 helping the Purple Knights grab first place as a team in the quad meet.
Roland finished with an all-around score of 39.075, a mark that would earn her first place at the Don Tonry Invitational for gymnasts competing in all four events. Saturday's score is a season best for Julianna, as she topped the 39.000 mark for the first time in her young career. She did not score lower than a 9.7 on any event. On vault, she posted a high score of 9.875, scored a 9.75 on both the uneven bars and balance beam and filled out her all-around scorecard with a 9.7 floor routine.
This week, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team travels to the University of Pennsylvania for a quad meet on Sunday afternoon.
