Women's Gymnastics Opens 2017 Season With Third Place Finish At Rutgers Invitational
Senior Brianna Comport Wins The Floor Exercise And Takes Second On The Balance Beam
Piscataway, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened its 2017 season this afternoon in snowy New Jersey with a third place finish in a quad-meet hosted by Rutgers University. As a team, the Purple Knights totaled 191.225 points on the day to take third behind the University of New Hampshire (193.425 points) and the host Scarlet Knights (192.875 points). William & Mary finished in fourth place on the day with 188.275 points.
As a team, UB posted scores of 47.275 on the beam, 48.025 in the floor exercise, 48.250 on the vault and 47.675 on the bars.
Senior Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) opened her 2017 campaign in fine style winning the floor exercise with a score of 9.825 and taking second place on the balance beam with a score of 9.850.
Classmate Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) tied for second place on the vault with a score of 9.775, and senior Christine Liautaud (Cary, Illinois) was UB's top finisher on the bars with a score of 9.625, which place her in the ninth spot.
Junior Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) was the lone Bridgeport competitor in the all-around on Saturday, and she totaled 37.550 points in the four events, which put her in eighth place on the afternoon.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will travel to Providence, Rhode Island next Saturday for a tri-meet hosted by Brown University with the University of New Hampshire. Meet time is set for 4:00 p.m.
