Bridgeport Wins Seventh Straight ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Team Title
Senior Sasha Tsikhanovich Named ECAC Athlete of the Year And Classmate Caitlin Perry Selected ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Following The Meet
New Haven, Conn.-For the seventh straight season and the 18th time in program history, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team has captured the ECAC Division II Title. The Purple Knights took the 2015 ECAC crown with a total of 195.225 points on Saturday afternoon. This year's ECAC Championship Meet was hosted by Southern Connecticut State University in the Owls' Moore Fieldhouse. SCSU took second place on the day with a score of 191.875, and West Chester was third with a team score of 190.600.
UB senior Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio), who was named the 2015 ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Athlete of the Year following the meet, won Saturday's all-around competition totaling 39.325 points in the four events. Sash took two first places at the 2015 ECAC Championship Meet winning the bars (9.875) and the floor exercise (9.975). In the floor exercise, Tsikhanovich was shown her third score of a perfect 10 so far this season. Sasha also finished a strong second behind teammate sophomore Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) in the vault with a score of 9.775. Stewart posted a 9.800 to win the event.
In the floor exercise, senior Caitlin Perry (N. Kingston, R.I.), who was selected as the 2015 ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year, took second behind Tsikhanovich with a score of 9.875. Perry also tied for third on the vault with a score of 9.750.
On the bars, sophomore Amber Hill (Windsor Locks, Con.) and freshman Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) tied for third place with a score of 9.775. Campbell finished third in Saturday's all-around with a score of 38.375 in the four individual events.
On the balance beam, sophomore Rachel DiCarlo (Harleysville, Pa.) was the top UB finished taking second place with a score of 9.800, and freshman Carol Chiles (Fairfield, Calif.) and sophomore Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) tied for third with scores of 9.750.
