Junior Monica Mesalles Sallares Wins The All-Around And UB Gymnastics Takes Second Place As A Team At Maryland Tri-Meet
Purple Knights Will Be Back In Action At The University of Arizona On Saturday Night
College Park, Md.-Junior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) won the all-around competition with a total of 39.075, and the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team took second overall at Sunday's University of Maryland tri-meet. Maryland won the event with a team score of 195.075. UB was second with a score of 192.950, and Penn took third place with a total of 191.650.
Mesalles Sallares tied for first place on the vault with a score of 9.850, and she grabbed second place in the floor exercise with another 9.850. Monica was the Purple Knights' top finisher on the balance beam with a score of 9.700 which put her in fourth place, and she finished thirteenth on the bars.
Sophomore Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) tied for second on the bars with a score of 9.825, and sophomore Emily Turik (Crystal Lake, Ill.) was seventh on the bars with a score of 9.775.
UB senior Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, Pa.) took seventh place on the beam on Sunday with a score of 9.625, and classmate Jessica Watts (Marietta, Ga.) was seventh on the floor with a score of 9.775.
On the vault, sophomore Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Ga.) was the top Bridgeport finisher behind Mesalles Sallares with a score of 9.725.
The UB women's gymnastics team will be back in action next Friday evening, March 16 when they travel to Tucson, Arizona to face the host University of Arizona Wildcats along with Air Force and Utah State. Action gets underway at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday.
