Women's Gymnastics Tops Southern Connecticut And Brown
UB Wins Fourth Straight Event
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team picked up its fourth consecutive event win on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights dominated a home, tri-meet with Southern Connecticut State and Brown winning all four events on the evening. UB won the event with a score of 195.675. SCSU was second with a total of 190.975, and Brown was third with a score of 190.375. The meet was held in Bridgeport's Hubbell Gym in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd on Senior Night.
Junior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) won Wednesday's all-around with a total of 39.275. Monica won the beam with a score of 9.875, and she tied for second on the floor (9.87) and the vault (9.825) plus turned in a strong fifth place on the bars (9.700).
Senior Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, Pa.) took first place on the floor (9.925), and she was second on the beam (9.850).
Sophomore Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) won the bars with a score of 9.900 (new school record).
Sophomore Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Ga.) took first place in the vault on Wednesday with a score of (9.875).
Freshman Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) was strong helping the Purple Knights to Wednesday's victory by tying for second on the bars (9.775) with teammate Emily Turik (So., Crystal Lake, Ill.) and on the floor with Mesalles Sallares. Sash was also third on the balance beam (9.775).
Freshman Caitlin Perry (N. Kingston, R.I.) and junior Natalie Saimeri (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) tied for fourth on the vault for the Purple Knights with a score of 9.775.
The Bridgeport gymnastics team will be back in action this Sunday afternoon as they travel to College Park, Maryland to take on the host Terrapins and Penn. Action gets underway at 2:00 p.m.
