Oh What A Record-Setting Night For UB Gymnastics As Purple Knights Win New Hampshire Invitational
Bridgeport Set New School Record Team Score Plus Posts Three Team Event Records-Monica Mesalles Sallares Win All-Around With New Record Total
Durham, N.H.-It was a record-setting night of the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team on Saturday evening as the Purple Knights took first place in the four-team University of New Hampshire Invitational. For the second time this season, UB posted a new team record score winning in the Granite State with a total of 196.350 points. The host Wildcats took second place with a score of 195.800; Maryland was third with a score of 194.875 and Brown finished in fourth place with a total of 191.575 points.
UB also set team record in three of the four events on Saturday as they scored 49.350 in the floor excursive, 49.100 on the beam and 49.025 on the bars. Junior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) won the all-around at UNH eclipsing her own school record total with a score of 39.450 in the four events.
Monica won the vault with a score of 9.925 (school record), and she tied for first in the floor exercise with teammate, senior Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, Pa.), as they both scored 9.900.
Mesalles Sallares was fourth on the beam with a score of 9.875, as she finished behind Repko and freshman Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) who tied for first in the event with scores of 9.900.
On the bars, sophomore Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) was the top UB finisher tying for second place with a score of 9.875 (new school record). Tsikhanovich was sixth on the bars with a score of 9.825, and Mesalles Sallares scored 9.750 to take fourteenth in the event.
Sophomore Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Ga.) had a strong performance for the Purple Knights in the vault finishing in a third place tie with a score of 9.85.
The UB gymnastics team is back in action at home on Thursday night, March 8, as they host Southern Connecticut State and Brown. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 6:00 p.m.
