McBride Eclipses 1,000 Points in Decisive Win over Bloomfield
15th player in program history to go over 1,000 career points
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Propelled by a season-best point total, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team tallied a 77-48 win over Bloomfield on Wednesday night. The triumph improves the Purple Knights' CACC record to 8-7 this season.
Amidst the decisive win was a memorable milestone by senior Stephanie McBride. The Brooklyn native eclipsed 1,000 career points with a layup at the end of the first half.
McBride, who is now the 15th player in program history to go over the 1,000 mark, finished the night with a season-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. She is now averaging 11.9 points and 9.9 boards per contest this season.
Trailing by one point after the first quarter, the Purple Knights outscored Bloomfield by 30 points over the final 30 minutes.
In addition to McBride, Shakira Hester and Samirah Akinwunmi also reached double figures offensively.
Hester recorded her ninth double-double of the season courtesy of 16 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. She has now tallied 15 boards in three different games this season.
Akinwunmi finished with 12 points while Tariah Bryant and Harmony Earth-Wiuley each added eight. Bryant also dished out a team-high and season-high seven assists.
As a team, the Purple Knights outrebounded Bloomfield by a 52-37 margin. UB piled up 18 of those boards on the offensive side.
