PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Facing one of the top teams in the country on the road, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team dropped a 77-55 contest at No. 3 Jefferson (23-1) on Saturday. The loss shifts the Purple Knights' CACC record to 7-6 this season.
Shakira Hester served as a sensational bright spot for UB in the loss. The Bronx, N.Y. native went off for 19 points and 11 rebounds to secure her fifth double-double this season. She also chipped in four assists and two steals.
Samirah Akinwunmi served as Bridgeport's second-leading scorer with nine points while Tariah Bryant and Skylar Parris each put in eight points.
Collectively, the Purple Knights shot 22-of-52 (42.2%) from the field and eight-for-23 from three-point land.
Bridgeport finished with 15 assists on their 22 made shots while tallying a 3-for-6 effort from the free-throw line.
After a tight first quarter, Jefferson rattled off a 21-8 second frame and a 23-11 third quarter.
