Women’s Basketball Struggles Against Saint Rose
Bridgeport was defeated by the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights on Sunday afternoon 25-63.
Albany, N.Y. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team were beaten by the Golden Knights of Saint Rose away from home Sunday. The Purple Knights struggled to get their offense going against a hot Saint Rose team fresh off beating nationally ranked Assumption University earlier in the week. The 25-63 non-conference loss drops UB's overall season record to 1-4.
In the first meeting between the Purple Knights and Golden Knights since December 2016, Saint Rose came in with more momentum after upsetting the number four (WBCA) and five (D2CSC) nationally ranked Assumption University before the Thanksgiving break.
The Golden Knights led UB 33-17 at halftime and were dominant in the second half, limiting the Purple Knights to eight total points and taking the game with a 63-25 final score.
Bridgeport's top scorer was Shakira Hester (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) with six points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Senior Ayanna Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights under the boards with nine rebounds, three points, one block, one steal and an assist.
Up next, UB will play in their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest of the season on Wednesday, November 29th as they travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. to take on the Chargers of Dominican University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Hennessy Center.
