Total Team Effort Lifts UB Women To A 78-59 Home Win Over Caldwell
Stephanie McBride Leads The Purple Knights On The Night With 23 Points And 15 Rebounds Plus Five Blocks
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team put together one of its best team efforts of the season on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 78-59 home Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the visiting Caldwell University Cougars. UB is now 9-15 overall and 5-10 in conference play. Caldwell moves to 10-13 overall and is 6-8 in the CACC.
After finishing the first quarter deadlocked at 171-, UB outscored the visitors, 24-7, in the second quarter to grab a 41-24 lead at the half, which they never relinquished.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Bridgeport on both ends of the court on Wednesday night finishing with a season-high 23 points (11-of-18 from the floor) and finishing with a double-double, as she pulled down a game-best 15 rebounds. McBride also blocked a total of five shot and picked up a steal in the winning effort.
Stephanie was joined in double-digit scoring by three teammates, as Amani Melendez (Fr., Woodbridge, Va.) had 21 points plus six assists and four steals, sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished with a double-double of her own with 16 points and 10 rebounds and junior Tariah Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 11 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will take the weekend off and then close out their 2022-23 regular season home schedule on Tuesday, February 14 with a CACC tilt against Alliance University. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
