Purple Knights' Amani Melendez Nets A Game-High 14 Points To Notch Double Figures For The 13th Straight Outing
Orangeburg, N.Y.-The offensive struggles continued for the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team on Tuesday night, as the Purple Knights shot only 28.6 percent (20-of-70) from the floor and committed 19 turnovers in a 75-50 road Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to the host Dominican University New York Chargers. UB is now 8-14 overall and 4-8 in conference play. DU is now 13-9 overall and 8-4 in the CACC.
Bridgeport's Amani Melendez (Fr., Woodbridge, Va.) led all scores in the contest with 14 points, as she reached double figures for the thirteenth straight game.
She joined in double-digit scoring by sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) who netted 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds on Tuesday evening.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights on the glass pulling down nine rebounds.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to get back in the win column and snap a six-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Chestnut Hill College in a conference tilt. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
