UB Women Start Fast But Fall To Nationally-Ranked Assumption
Senior Stephanie McBride Leads UB With 14 Points And Surpasses the 500 Rebound Mark For Her Career
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team got off to a fast start against the visiting Assumption University Greyhounds leading by 11 points, 15-4, with 1:43 to play in the first quarter and holding a 15-7 advantage after the first stanza, but the nationally-ranked visitors limited UB to a total of only 26 total points over the final three quarters on their way to a 55-41 win in Bridgeport's final non-conference game of the season.
The 41 points a single-game season low for the Purple Knights, as the team shot only 33.3 percent from the floor for the game and committed a total of 20 turnovers which were turned into 12 points by Assumption.
Bridgeport is now 8-10 overall, and the Greyhounds up their season mark to 15-2.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights with 14 points on the night, and she grabbed nine rebounds on Monday; which gives her a total of 503 boards for the career in a UB uniform.
McBride was joined in double-digit scoring by freshman Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.) who finished with 13 points on the night.
Ja'Lyn Armstrong led three Greyhounds in double figures with 14 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will continue its three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when the Purple Knights return to conference play taking on the Holy Family University Tigers. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 1:00 p.m.
